About Me

Hi there, I’m Erica Foulkes. I’m training as a therapist with KMP while pursuing my master’s in mental health counseling at City College. Originally from South Carolina, I moved to NYC eight years ago and am grateful to call this city home. I find my greatest moments of peace walking around a park or under trees, listening to music, and cooking for loved ones.  Over the past decade, I’ve worked in diverse fields including fashion, teaching, food sovereignty, child advocacy, and supporting survivors of SA. These experiences have connected me with many unique individuals and deepened my understanding of resilience, creativity, and community. As a queer person and survivor of trauma, I understand how daunting it can be to confront life’s challenges, and I strive to create a compassionate, collaborative, and affirming space.

My approach: I take an integrated approach to therapy, drawing from practical tools and frameworks while focusing on deeper questions of connection, meaning, and authenticity. Life often presents questions that don’t have easy answers, but that shape how we live and understand ourselves. Therapy can be a space to explore them together. I don’t have the answers, but I’ll walk alongside you to discover what feels most true for you. We’ll welcome the complicated, unknown, and unfinished parts of yourself, explore how you relate to the world around you, and how to further align choices with values. I recognize that broader social, cultural, and systemic contexts greatly influence our lives and our pain, and aim to approach sessions with curiosity about unique aspects of your identity, including gender, sexuality, race, class, ability, spirituality, and community.  Ultimately, I believe seeking support is a courageous and deeply human act. My hope is to empower you to move through life with greater clarity and sense of agency while honoring your strengths and the richness of your experiences.

My clinical experience involves working with individuals of different races, genders, and physical and mental abilities struggling with anxiety, stress, systemic oppression, self-esteem issues, and life transitions. I have a deep passion for working with clients from all backgrounds through humanistic and evidence-based modalities to help them navigate difficulties with unconditional positive regard, confidence, and adaptability.

I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Hunter College and hold a B.A. in Developmental Psychology. With my clinical and educational background, I aim to work collaboratively with clients while establishing compassion, awareness, and critical thinking in the therapeutic space. I have confidence in all individuals’ abilities for self-actualization and invite you to reach out to embark on your mental health journey!
