Our Services

Kind Mind Psychology takes an integrated approach to mental health care. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, and we don’t believe the person in the room should have to fit the treatment. We fit the treatment to you.

Our team of licensed psychologists and therapists is trained across a wide range of evidence-based and psychodynamic approaches. We serve individuals, couples, families, groups, and teens, with particular expertise in working with BIPOCLGBTQ+, and alternative lifestyle communities. All services are available virtually in New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Group therapy is available across PSYPACT states. Executive functioning coaching is available nationwide.

How We Work

We draw from multiple therapeutic modalities and tailor our approach to what fits you best. Here’s what that looks like in practice:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — A structured, skills-based approach that helps you identify and change the thought patterns and behaviors driving anxiety, depression, stress, and other challenges. CBT is active and goal-oriented. You’ll leave sessions with things to actually do.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — Originally developed for emotional dysregulation, DBT builds skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. We offer individual DBT as well as DBT skills groups.

EMDR Therapy — Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps you process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional charge. EMDR is especially effective for trauma and PTSD and can also help with anxiety, grief, and performance issues.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) — IFS works with the different “parts” of your internal world to understand why you think, feel, and behave the way you do. It’s a compassionate, non-pathologizing approach to healing wounds you may have carried for a long time.

Additional Modalities — Our clinicians are also trained in Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and psychodynamic approaches informed by Attachment Theory, Object Relations, Self Psychology, and Mentalization-Based Therapy.

What We Treat

Our team works with a broad range of mental health conditions across the lifespan. Whatever you’re dealing with, we’ll meet you where you are and help you build a path forward.

Anxiety Disorders — Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, and the excessive worry that keeps you stuck in your head. We use CBTDBT, and ACT to build practical skills for managing anxiety day to day.

Depression — Persistent sadness, low motivation, hopelessness, irritability, and the feeling that nothing sounds good anymore. We address both the cognitive patterns and the behavioral withdrawal that keep depression in place.

Bipolar Disorder — Managing the emotional highs and lows of bipolar disorder, including mood stabilization, identifying triggers, building structure, and navigating the relational impact of mood episodes.

ADHD — The emotional, relational, and executive functioning challenges of ADHD that go far beyond focus. We offer both therapy and executive functioning coaching to help you build skills for time management, task initiation, emotional regulation, and daily structure.

Trauma & Complex PTSD — Processing traumatic experiences, including racial trauma, childhood trauma, complex PTSD, and intergenerational trauma. We use EMDR, Prolonged Exposure, CPT, and IFS to help you heal without being retraumatized.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) — Specialized support for dissociative experiences, including depersonalization, derealization, and dissociative identity, with a trauma-informed, parts-based approach.

Personality Disorders — Including borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, and others. We use DBT and schema therapy to reduce emotional suffering, improve relationships, and build a more stable sense of self.

Emotional Dysregulation — Intense emotions that feel out of proportion, rapid mood shifts, difficulty calming down, and the shame that often follows. DBT is our primary framework for building emotional regulation skills.

Grief & Loss — Navigating the pain of losing someone or something that mattered, whether through death, divorce, estrangement, or life transitions. We help you process grief on your own timeline.

Self-Esteem & Identity — Low self-worth, imposter syndrome, people-pleasing, and the work of figuring out who you are outside of what others expect of you.

Relationship Challenges — Patterns of conflict, communication breakdowns, attachment issues, codependency, and the relational struggles that show up across friendships, family, and romantic partnerships.

Stress, Burnout & Life Transitions — Career stress, academic pressure, parenting overwhelm, moving, breakups, and the accumulation of life changes that can quietly erode your mental health.

Self-Harm — Building skills and supports to cope with emotional pain without turning to self-destructive behaviors. We approach this with zero judgment and a focus on safety, stability, and long-term coping.

Anger Management — Understanding what’s underneath the anger and developing healthy ways to express and manage it.

Who We Serve

We work with people of all backgrounds. We also bring deep expertise in communities that have been historically underserved by the mental health system:

BIPOC Individuals — Navigating racial stress, racial trauma, discrimination, cultural identity, code-switching, and the mental health effects of systemic racism. Our founder co-authored Addressing Race-Based Stress in Therapy with Black Clients (Routledge).

LGBTQ+ Clients — Managing minority stress, identity development, coming out, gender exploration, and the impact of living in a world that doesn’t always make space for who you are.

Alternative Lifestyles — Polyamory, ethical non-monogamy, kink, and sex work. We don’t flinch, we don’t pathologize, and we don’t require you to explain your relationship structure before we can help you.

Immigrants & Children of Immigrants — Cultural duality, acculturation stress, family expectations, language barriers, and the unique pressures of straddling two worlds.

Teens — Ages 12 and up. Identity development, academic stress, social anxiety, family conflict, and the emotional intensity of adolescence.

Couples & Partners — All relationship structures, including interracial, intercultural, LGBTQ+, and polyamorous partnerships. Communication, conflict, intimacy, trust, and rebuilding after rupture.

Service Types

Individual Therapy — One-on-one sessions tailored to your needs, drawing from the modalities listed above. Available with all clinicians at the practice.
